    Tony & Lynsey

Tony got in touch to ask us to create a bespoke engagement ring for his girlfriend Lynsey in time for their holiday to Japan. Having studied alonside the pair at Duncan of Jordnastone this was a very exciting and special commission. Choosing a diamond in gold band we created this striking design. We were pleased to hear that Lynsey said YES and we were even more excited when they asked us to make their wedding bands too. Tony opted for a minimal white gold band whilst Lynsey wanted a ring to sit snuggly against her engagement ring. They are now married HIP HIP HOORAY!

    Q: How did you meet?

L: We met at Duncan of Jordanstone in 2007. Tony was studying Graphic Design and I was studying Textile Design. On a night out, we exchanged glances and the rest is history.

Q: Tony how did you know that she was The One?

T: I don't think there was ever a moment of sudden realisation. We've been together for a long time and our relationship has developed naturally. We are happiest when we are together, making each other laugh and looking out for one another. Asking Lynsey to marry me was always on my mind, but there was no rush. It was important that we did it at a time that was right for both of us.

Q: Tell us about the proposal

L: Whilst holidaying in Japan last year, we travelled around a bit and ended up on this unbelievable island called Naoshima, just off the South coast. The island is know for all of its 7 Art museums, and we stayed in an incredible hotel called Benessee House. It looked as though it was straight off the set of a Bond movie. Think poured concrete, minimal lines and lush greenery. We went for a walk down a completely idyllic and empty beach and Tony got down on one knee. I was so shocked I couldn’t speak - Tony was worried I was going to say no! Of course I said yes!

Q: Tell us about the rings

L: The rings are more beautiful than I could have ever anticipated. One of the hardest things must be choosing a ring for someone to wear for the rest of their life. Tony did an excellent job at choosing something modern, unique and timeless.  My engagement ring has a sanitised finish, and when worn with my polished wedding ring, (which fits so snugly) they compliment each other beautifully.

Q: Why did you choose a Jane Gowans ring?

L: I knew I always wanted a Jane Gowans engagement ring as I loved the minimal, but feminine style that is carried through her collections. I dropped a few hints to Tony in the past and luckily he listened.

Q: Tell us about the commissioning process, would you recommend it?

T: Working with Jane was fun and exciting. I knew Lynsey loved her work so it was an easy decision for me to ask Jane to make her engagement ring. There was quite a bit of back and forth on email to ensure that Jane had all the information she needed to create the perfect ring for Lynsey.

I was delighted with the the ring when I saw it for the first time. I knew Lynsey would love it. Without asking someone specific and talented like Jane I very much doubt I could've got the right ring for Lynsey.

Q: What were you looking forward to most about your wedding?

L: We were looking forward to having all of our friends and family join us in exchanging our vows and getting married, having a right old good knees up in a wonderful location.

I also could not wait to wear both of my rings at once!
