• She Said Yes!

    Tony & Lynsey

Tony got in touch to ask us to create a bespoke engagement ring for his girlfriend Lynsey in time for their holiday to Japan. Having studied alonside the pair at Duncan of Jordnastone this was a very exciting and special commission. Choosing a diamond in gold band we created this striking design. We were pleased to hear that Lynsey said YES and we were even more excited when they asked us to make their wedding bands too. Tony opted for a minimal white gold band whilst Lynsey wanted a ring to sit snuggly against her engagement ring. They are now married HIP HIP HOORAY!

    Q: How did you meet?

L: We met at Duncan of Jordanstone in 2007. Tony was studying Graphic Design and I was studying Textile Design. On a night out, we exchanged glances and the rest is history.

Q: Tony how did you know that she was The One?

T: I don't think there was ever a moment of sudden realisation. We've been together for a long time and our relationship has developed naturally. We are happiest when we are together, making each other laugh and looking out for one another. Asking Lynsey to marry me was always on my mind, but there was no rush. It was important that we did it at a time that was right for both of us.

    Lynsey & Tony in Japan

Q: Tell us about the proposal

L: Whilst holidaying in Japan last year, we travelled around a bit and ended up on this unbelievable island called Naoshima, just off the South coast. The island is know for all of its 7 Art museums, and we stayed in an incredible hotel called Benessee House. It looked as though it was straight off the set of a Bond movie. Think poured concrete, minimal lines and lush greenery. We went for a walk down a completely idyllic and empty beach and Tony got down on one knee. I was so shocked I couldn’t speak - Tony was worried I was going to say no! Of course I said yes!

Q: Tell us about the rings

L: The rings are more beautiful than I could have ever anticipated. One of the hardest things must be choosing a ring for someone to wear for the rest of their life. Tony did an excellent job at choosing something modern, unique and timeless.  My engagement ring has a sanitised finish, and when worn with my polished wedding ring, (which fits so snugly) they compliment each other beautifully.

Q: Why did you choose a Jane Gowans ring?

L: I knew I always wanted a Jane Gowans engagement ring as I loved the minimal, but feminine style that is carried through her collections. I dropped a few hints to Tony in the past and luckily he listened.

Q: Tell us about the commissioning process, would you recommend it?

T: Working with Jane was fun and exciting. I knew Lynsey loved her work so it was an easy decision for me to ask Jane to make her engagement ring. There was quite a bit of back and forth on email to ensure that Jane had all the information she needed to create the perfect ring for Lynsey.

I was delighted with the the ring when I saw it for the first time. I knew Lynsey would love it. Without asking someone specific and talented like Jane I very much doubt I could've got the right ring for Lynsey.

Q: What were you looking forward to most about your wedding?

L: We were looking forward to having all of our friends and family join us in exchanging our vows and getting married, having a right old good knees up in a wonderful location.

I also could not wait to wear both of my rings at once!

    Robert & Emma

We were contacted by Robert to create a bespoke engagement ring for his girlfriend Emma in time for their holiday to Greece. Choosing a baguette cut emerald and silver band we created this striking design. We are pleased to hear that Emma said YES! Now that they are happily engaged we have had the chance to ask them a little bit more about it...

    Q: How did you meet?

E: We have known each other for about 6 years through mutual friends however it wasn’t till one night at the Arches in Glasgow that we really started talking.

R: We met the next week in a café in the Southside as Emma was designing a tattoo sleeve for me and that was that. The tattoo is a daily reminder of that coffee date.

Q: Tell us about the proposal

R: I had been planning for about 2 months before we went on holiday to Greece however I really didn’t want Emma to know. I wanted a really big surprise and not something you would expect as a traditional proposal spot.

E: Robert took me out on a jet ski and then all of a sudden stopped the jet ski and while we where bobbing about in the sea, told me to close my eyes. When I opened them he was holding my beautiful ring and then ask me to marry him. I was in shock, I didn’t cry or scream I just went silent – anyone who knows me will tell you this is not me. I just couldn’t believe it. The ring and proposal were perfect.

Q: Tell us about the ring

E: The ring is a geometric design with silver facing and Emerald stone. It sleek and simple and without sounding cliché I couldn’t have picked a better ring myself.

Q: Why did you choose a Jane Gowans ring?

R: Emma is a bloody nightmare. She studied fashion design so is really particular about her style. She is so fussy, a diamond ring just wouldn’t have suited her. Her favorite stone is emerald, her birthstone, so it made perfect sense to use this for the ring.

Q: Tell us about the commissioning process, would you recommend it?

R: The commissioning process was a really personal service. Jane kept me up to date and we were constantly emailing back and forth different designs – she understood perfectly what I was looking for. I highly recommend a commissioned ring if you are looking for something extraordinary and unique. The hardest part was keeping it a secret from Emma for so long.

Q: What are you looking forward to most about your wedding?

E: Obviously getting married but mostly celebrating with our family and with all our closest friends.

    Huge congratulations Robert & Emma!

  • Forever Jane: Behind the Scenes

Published Monday 16th March 2015 @ 12.30pm by Jane Gowans

The debut Forever Jane Collection, "Flora & Fauna" is set for release on May 1st so we thought we would take you back to October 2014 and behind the scenes on our photoshoot to wet your appetite.

We had an early start in Dundee and people travelling from Aberdeen and Edinburgh. This was the first time that we had worked together and it was a dream team; photographer Louise Carnegie whose inspiring portfolio is full of amazing editorial style studio shoots, make up artist Jade Koemans whose cosmetics kit is enough to make any girl jealous and finally the beautful Amy Chong from Colours Agency whose flawless look just blew us away.

We opted for a natural beauty look to kick us off which worked well with the botanical inspired collection.

As the day progressed the treasure chest was layered onto the model and we created some really dramatic shots with a darker make up look including a glossy black lip colour- not for the faint hearted!

The full collection with prices from £25-£80 launches on May 1st (put it in your diary) and will be accompanied by the images from this fantastic shoot. We can't wait to share it all with you. In the meantime here is a little sneak peek...
